Born in Geneva, Swiss-Italian pianist Fabrizio Chiovetta studied with Elisabeth Athanassova, Dominique Weber, John Perry, and Paul Badura-Skoda, becoming one of the latter’s closest disciples. He has built a distinctive career as both a soloist and chamber musician.
He performs regularly across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, and has appeared at prestigious venues and festivals including the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Princeton Piano Festival, Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the NCPA Mumbai, Lisztomanias, and Schloss Elmau. He has collaborated with conductors including Gábor Takács-Nagy, Jean-Pascal Hamelin, Arie van Beek, and Diego Matheuz.
An acclaimed chamber musician, Chiovetta shares the stage with leading artists including Gautier Capuçon, the Belcea Quartet, Lise Berthaud, Alexandra Conunova, Marc Coppey, Henri Demarquette, Camille Thomas, Pierre Fouchenneret, Sarah Nemtanu, Patrick Messina, Silvia Careddu, Benjamin Appl, Samuel Hasselhorn, and Werner Güra. He premiered Tristan Murail’s solo piano work Le rossignol en amour and made the first recording of chamber works by Arvo Pärt, Jaan Rääts, and André Previn. Also an improviser, he has collaborated with artists from different musical worlds, including Vincent Ségal, Grégoire Maret, and Marthe Keller.
His discography, released on Palexa, Claves Records, and Aparté, has earned international acclaim. His recordings have been named Editor’s Choice by Gramophone and have received top distinctions from Diapason, Fono Forum, and Classica. The American Record Guide wrote: “After Chiovetta’s release, it would be difficult not to be disappointed by any other Bach piano recording.” Renowned critic Jed Distler has praised his interpretation of Schumann’s Fantasy in C, calling it a new benchmark.
Fabrizio Chiovetta is Professor of Piano at the Geneva University of Music (Haute école de musique de Genève) and regularly serves on the juries of international piano competitions.
