Boguslaw Jan Strobel was born in 1946 in Danzig (Gdańsk) into a German-Polish family of musicians. He initially studied in his hometown and subsequently, from 1965 to 1970, at the Frédéric Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. In 1970, he completed his concert examination there.
From 1971 to 1976, he studied philosophy and aesthetics at the University of Warsaw, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Philosophy.
From 1976 onwards, Strobel taught at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, while simultaneously teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts and the State Higher School of Theatre in Warsaw, where he gave lectures on philosophy and aesthetics.
Since 1979, he taught piano as a lecturer at the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, where he served as an honorary professor from 2006 to 2019.
His extensive concert career has taken him to almost every country in Europe, as well as to the United States, South Korea and Japan. He has also performed numerous live concerts and participated in radio and television productions for various broadcasters. In addition, he has made numerous recordings on vinyl and CD.
In 1996, Strobel founded the “Artol Ensemble for New Music”, which he led as conductor and artistic director in numerous concerts.
Strobel is also the initiator and artistic director of major cultural projects in the Lower Rhine region. These include the “Klevischer Klaviersommer” (Cleves Piano Summer), which has been held since 1988, and the International Composition Competition “Music in European Gardens”, launched in 2000.
One of Strobel’s particular concerns is the promotion of musically gifted children and young people. On his initiative, the trinational “St(p)ringtime String Academy” was established in Goch. It is aimed at highly gifted young musicians aged 11 to 14 from Poland, the Netherlands and Germany.
The founding of “Campus Cleve” in 2008 was also initiated by Strobel. It comprises the Kawai Heinrich Neuhaus Masterclass for Piano and Chamber Music as well as the Euregio Rhine-Waal Student Festival.
In addition, Strobel is the initiator and artistic director of several student concert series in the Lower Rhine region and the neighbouring regions of the Netherlands. He invites students from European music academies to these events, thereby creating an international forum for musical exchange and encounters.

In 2012, Boguslaw Jan Strobel received the “Johann Moritz Cultural Prize” from the City of Kleve. In 2019, he was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
